Car seats are for cars. When you use one as a baby carrier, you could harm your back because you are adding unnecessary weight to your load and leaning over in an awkward position. What’s more, there have been studies which indicate that permitting babies to sleep for extended periods in a car seat put them at greater risk of SIDS. Strollers take up space and are difficult to open, close, and store. Shopping carts are full of bacteria and germs.
Meanwhile, slings fit in your baby bag, and when you carry your baby in them you have her/him close to you. When you’re at home and your baby cries, you can carry him/her in your arms and continue with your daily tasks, hands free! Your baby can take her/his nap in the sling, in a safe and comfortable position, similar to the one in mama’s womb.
A breastfeeding mother can carry her baby in the sling and breastfeed at the same time. If she wants to nurse with more discretion, all she has to do is take the sling tail and place it over her chest, as if it were a blanket, without having to carry a separate cover-up.
